Seller Description
This 1973 Citroen SM 5-speed (VIN AC7300SD0932) was restored by world renowned SM specialist Jerry Hathaway to better than new standards in the 1990s for the grandson of Walt Disney. He used the car sparingly until the current seller purchased it from him two years ago. Among other famous SMs, Jerry services Jay Leno’s SM, and is known for holding a speed world record driving an SM and is featured in SM books and articles worldwide. Jerry has known this SM since new in 1973 when he road tested it for its original owner, and its ownership is documented and continuous in Southern California up through 2010. It is now available in Washington D.C. for $44k.
Beige Tholonet paint is show quality on both the exterior and engine compartment. The seller says that Jerry calls this car “The Ultimate SM” as it has the following features: extremely rare resin wheels that were used on the rally cars (these wheels alone have sold for up to $12,000), engine upgraded to 220 HP (40 HP increase over standard Maserati engine), European turning headlights (converted during restoration), and European rear chrome license plate bracket. The car was restored with the intent of being as reliable and practical as a modern car.
The interior features beautiful cognac color leather seats, leather door panels, and wool carpeting. The A/C is very effective and cold according to the seller. Discrete updates include upgraded suspension for handling, a hidden stereo with 6 CD player (original stereo still in it’s correct place), power remote door locks, and dual power mirrors. Everything works perfectly as it should according to the seller.
The car never overheats and temperature is monitored by a modern digital gauge to calm any of the old SM temperature fears. The car comes with service records dating back to when the car was new.
The seller tells us: “I have several modern exotic cars and this car rides, handles, and accelerates like a fine car regardless of age, truly amazing. This is known to be one of the finest SMs in the world. Not to be confused with the SMs described in “excellent condition” sold for $15 to $25,000.”
